Write a scene or story that features your character painting (pictures, houses, whatever you choose).

I have always loved to draw and colour, ever since I was a child. My parents were poor, but for Eid they would always get me paper and crayons, and I would race off to the lake's edge and draw what I saw. And in Kashmir, there is so much that is beautiful it inspires an artist, even one as young as I was then. The mountains, the lake, all of it a paradise.

I was sitting drawing at the end of the jetty, hearing Sufi trying to boss around the other children into singing and dancing. There was a wedding, and she wanted to perform. A star needed an audience. She must have realized I wasn't there, and she came looking for me. When she found me, she pushed me into the water. I climbed out and chased her. The game ended back at my family's home, where I found strange men with guns and my mother clearly afraid of them. After that night, I forgot all about the picture I had drawn until years later. I went to Sufi's home to apologize and beg her forgiveness for betraying her, and there on the wall was that picture.

I drew this picture over and over again with the same fury that those eyes had looked at me as the masked men fired blindly, killing everyone except me. Those eyes burned so much in my brain that I tried and tried to get it out, but I never could. I still can't. At this point, I did not know that my new father was the man who had murdered them.

I drew this after I played cricket with Khan-saab. That day was the first time that I called him abba, or dad. This picture was my idea then of paradise. High up in the snow-covered mountain meadows, playing cricket with him with Nilu and Sufi watching. It wasn't long after that when that dream of mine was shattered.

I still like to draw and paint, although I haven't in so long. There is no time and no inspiration. If I did, it would all be bombs and bullets, the smoke and flame that fills my head at night. Why should paint those things?

(OOC: Pictures used are those Altaaf drew in Mission Kashmir. My skills suck, so this was definitely the better way. :))
